The professors and students from PPGEAP develop activities in different laboratories in the Federal University of Para (Biological Science Institute/Geosciences Institute/UFPA), Research Campus of the Emílio Goeldi Museum (MPEG), Campus of Bragança (Institute of Coastal Studies/UFPA), Biological Science Center (UFGRS) and Tropical Ecology Center of the University of Bremen (ZMT-Germany). Laboratory of Population Dynamics and Evaluation of Fish Stocks

Integrated Ichthyology Laboratory

Responsible: Professor Jonathan Stuart Ready e Professor Wilsea MB Figueiredo Ready​ 

Biological Science Institute – UFPA

Research Line: Eco-evolutionary studies of Biodiversity in the Amazon with Lepidoptera and Ichthyofauna, collaborations with studies (mainly molecular) with other organisms (squid, crustaceans, mammals).

Physical Space: Teachers room (16 m²).Area: 56m².​               

Equipments/ Permanent Materials: Digital camera with waterproof case for diving; equipment for collecting and registering the field environment (fishing nets, photo aquariums, trenas, probes, GPS); freezers; refrigerators; bench equipment for biological material screening processes and basic processing of molecular biology samples (scales, calipers, vortex, etc.); computers and computer peripherals.

Developed Techniques: Taxonomic identification, basic ecological studies (with short and long term collections), sequencing of specific genes (focus on barcoding and metabarcoding), phylogeny and phylogeography studies, evolutionary ecology (vision-environment relation), modeling of organism distributions, studies integrating these analyzes (ecomorphology, phylogenetic spatial diversity, covariation between molecular, morphological and ecological data).

 

Taxology Laboratory

Developed Techniques in the Laboratory: Specific activity of antioxidant enzymes (catalase, glutathione-S-transferase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase, glutamate-cysteine ligase) and total antioxidant capacity by TEAC (antioxidant capacity equivalent to TROLOX) and ANCONROS (antioxidant capacity against peroxyl radicals), oxidative damage (lipid peroxidation, oxidation of proteins by detection of carbonyl groups), mutagenesis (micronucleus test).

 

Laboratory of Cellular Ultrastructure
