The researchers Drs. Marcelo Andrade and Tommaso Giarrizo, linked to the postgraduate program in Aquatic Ecology and fishery for UFPA, documented a species of piranha that feeds plants and fruits. The research has been developed in the Trombetas River, in the community of Cachoeira Porteira.

The piranha of the Amazon has already been presented herbivorous in Europe during an exhibition, and reported by various communication channels, such as the report displayed on national television by the Newspaper of Record in 11/1/2013; the interview of Dr. Marcelo Andrade in the program without censorship Stop, which aired in November 2013; and the matter in the Portal G1published on 10/30/2013.
